Earl releases video for new single ‘Baddabing Baddaboom’

Alaskan born singer and songwriter EARL has revealed her new single, BADDABING BADDABOOM, and confirmed her new album, TONGUE TIED, will be released on 16 June via BMG Records. The album sees EARL fulfilling her lifelong musical ambition to perform her own inventive brand of jazz, one that is deep rooted within and inspired by her incredibly colourful life and adventure so far.

EARL grew up living in a remote gas station and singing gospel in her home town church choir. As a Jazz obsessive since the age of seven, she found idols in pioneering ‘30s jazz performers such as Josephine Baker and Duke Ellington, a beginning that has, by her own admission, shaped her sound to this day.

Following moves to various cities searching for ‘that’ sound, and what turned out to be a fortuitous, almost life ending encounter with a speeding van, EARL now resides in North London where her exciting brand of jazz and pop has flourished, collaborating with an enviable array of talent including Paloma Faith and Basement Jaxx as well as the remarkable New Orleans Preservation Jazz Hall Band.

Her singles to date have given fans a taste of what to expect from the forthcoming album, and have already received critical praise with three consecutive BBC Radio 2 play listings, alongside the BBC Introducing team championing her unique sound from the start. Her first independently released single was followed by I LOVE YOU and TONGUE TIED, both of which feature on the album. I LOVE YOU is a sultry ballad effortlessly showcasing her stunning voice, and the album title track, TONGUE TIED, released earlier this year, shows the more up-tempo, swing side to her musical cannon.

BADDABING BADDABOOM is a joyous nod to the trumpeting jazz-skits of 1920s cotton-pop, which EARL has been inspired by since childhood, and the video, which is set in a peculiar boudoir, feels both futuristic and vintage at the same time and complements the lyrical message of the song perfectly. “Baddabing Baddaboom,” says EARL, “is a New York Italian phrase that means ‘one thing leads to another’ [every time my baby’s in the room] and this was a delicious song to write; cheeky, juicy and fun. I felt there might be some girls out there who could relate to it.”

The last few months have been a whirlwind for EARL, with a spellbinding Maida Vale session for BBC Introducing and Jo Whiley already under her belt, as well as completing a month long sold out UK tour supporting Rick Astley, performing to over 50,000 people and including a very special date at the London Royal Albert Hall.

This spring and summer is also already looking very exciting for EARL, having been personally invited as special guest on Bryan Ferry’s European dates in May, a headline show at the London Courtyard Theatre two days before the release of the album, and performances at an array of summer festivals, more of which to be announced soon.
