After a few headline shows across the UK and appearances at Glastonbury and T in the Park, Australian trio DMA’S are heading back to finish off the summer by taking on the mighty Reading and Leeds Festival. We caught up with vocalist Tommy O’Dell to see how his 2016 has been so far, and talk all things Reading & Leeds!

Hi DMA’S! How has 2016 been so far for you guys?
Good, man. Busy. We’ve played a bunch of festivals and done heaps of shows. Some of our biggest shows so far have been this year.

You recently finished a club tour of the UK; how was that?
Good as well; Bedford, Northampton and Derby were especially good gigs.

How do UK crowds compare to those back home in Australia?
Similar; a bit bigger at home because that’s where we started everything but our shows in London and Manchester and Glasgow are always similar to Sydney and Melbourne.

You must have been buzzing to play a secret set at Glastonbury, and also an appearance T in the Park, was it quite the experience playing to such huge festival crowds?
We have been a festival band since we started. We played Splendour in The Grass for our third show. It’s always good playing at festivals but it’s not really new to us, we just take it in our stride.

You recently released a new video for ‘Timeless’ that we love. It was filmed by your friend Errol Rainey at a Jazz event; what were your thoughts behind this?
Just wanted to do something different. Errol is awesome, he came up with the idea. It was easy for us; we just got pissed with a bunch of old legends and Errol made it look cool.

Reading and Leeds festival is approaching quickly; what does it mean to you to be a part of such an iconic UK festival?
We can’t wait! We played last year and loved it. So we are stoked to be doing it again and playing a later slot.

What can we expect from your set; any surprises?
No surprises I think; a similar set list to what we’ve been doing.

Who are you looking forward to seeing over the Reading and Leeds weekend?
We’re looking forward to having a beer with Liam from The Courteneers. We toured with them when we first came to UK and have been mates ever since.

Who are your Ultimate Reading & Leeds headliners?

My Bloody Valentine
Chemical Brothers
The Knife

Plans for remainder of 2016?
Demo and record the second album and tour Australia and Europe!
