DMA’S announce new single ‘In The Air’

I OH YOU and Infectious Music are thrilled to announce DMA’S brand new single IN THE AIR and to reveal details for their hugely anticipated second album, FOR NOW, due for release on 27 April.

Premiering worldwide via Triple J, IN THE AIR reveals a more mellow side to the Sydney band, with sweeping production and day-dream lyrics that shine a light on the band’s much-loved talent for song writing. Written on an old piano a few years ago, the lyrics of this ballad create an emotional journey:

“I can’t say / Where will I be when the world stops shaking / I can’t stay / Where will I be when my heart’s still breaking? / It’s in the air / There’s something in the way she drifts up there,” vocalist Tommy O’Dell’s sweet vocal croons.

IN THE AIR, along with the entirety of FOR NOW, was recorded at DMA’S home studio above the Lady Hampshire Hotel in Camperdown. After some time to allow for creative expansion, the band joined up with producer Kim Moyes – one half of The Presets – at The Grove in Somersby, New South Wales to finesse what is now the stunning final product of both the single and album.

Guitarist and songwriter Johnny Took says, “We are excited to share our new album with you. We’ve been working on these songs for some time now, we hope you enjoy.”

Kim Moyes describes his involvement: “I was brought on board to help the boys record drums for DAWNING and IN THE AIR, but I fell so much for all of the material in the demos that I knew fairly quickly that I would need to convince the band to let me sink my teeth much deeper. I truly loved working with these guys. So much.”

IN THE AIR follows DAWNING, the first single from the album, and a song that confirmed DMA’S comeback was destined to be special. The single currently sits at well over two million streams, was placed in this year’s Triple J Hottest 100 [the band’s fourth year in a row featuring in the countdown] and was reworked into a stunning acoustic version. Between studio stints and non-stop touring throughout 2017, the band returned home for two very special shows on the Dawning Single Tour at Melbourne’s Meat Market and Sydney’s Paddington Town Hall. Both shows sold out on the day of being announced.

The new album follows DMA’S critically acclaimed debut HILLS END, released in March 2016, and their self-titled EP from 2014, both of which catapulted the trio into global consciousness. The singles DELETE [certified Gold in Australia], LAY DOWN, TOO SOON and STEP UP THE MORPHINE earned the band countless praise throughout the world.

In Australia, HILLS END debuted at #8 on the ARIA Album Chart and earned the band a 2016 ARIA nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist. Since the album’s release in the UK, DMA’S have received constant and extensive radio play, particularly on BBC Radio 1, and have returned for multiple sold out tours throughout the UK and Europe. 2016 also saw the trio cover Cher’s classic BELIEVE for Triple J’s ‘Like A Version’, the cover going on to claim the #6 spot on the Hottest 100 in Australia, and currently edging towards five million views on You Tube alone.

“This soaring track is propelled by strumming guitars and shows their knack for melodies and layered harmonies for which DMA’s have become renowned” CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

“Neither brash nor witty, the words on Hills End are introverted and reflective in a stream-of-consciousness kind of way, combining both angst and yearning” PASTE MAGAZINE

“Where DMA’s truly succeed, like their idols, is in forging an emotional connection with their audience, finding beauty in the mundane and occasionally making you feel like you can take on the world” SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

The album is now available to pre-order before being released globally on 27 April. If the remarkable success of their debut is anything to go by, 2018 is set to be a staggering year for DMA’S.
