Slam Dunk Festival 2017 – preview Interview – Memphis May Fire

Slam Dunk Festival is quickly approaching, and nobody is raring to get to the stage as much as the fantastic Memphis May Fire! This year MMF are set to join the likes of Madina Lake, I Prevail and Counterfeit as they are set to headline the Impericon Stage. We caught up with the Memphis May Fire front-man Matty Mullins ahead of their trip back to the UK…

Hi Matty! What’s it like returning to Slam Dunk Festival after playing last year?
It’s an honor to be playing Slam Dunk again! We love to play in the UK whenever we can & Slam Dunk is definitely one of our favorite opportunities there.

What bands are you excited to catch at SD this year?
We’re going to try to see as many bands as possible! Off the top of my head, I’m excited to catch Goldfinger, Enter Shikari, Beartooth, & Stray From The Path.

It must be a great feeling to be headlining a stage this year, how did that go down with you guys?
We feel lucky to be headlining the Impericon stage this year! There are so many great bands on the bill & we are just excited to be a part of the festival.

How do you feel ‘This Light I Hold’ has been received?
The response has been incredible! I think long time MMF fans got a record they truly enjoy & we’ve definitely gained some new fans as well.

What music have you been jamming recently?
Lights features on a new Steve James track called “Warrior” & it rules. The new Kendrick record is really impressive too.

Would you ever consider changing your sound?
Totally! We are always evolving & changing our sound. We never know what a record is gonna sound like until we finish it & we love that.

What festival would you like to see yourselves headlining in future years?
We would love to keep scaling the wall on Download & Soundwave!

Who would you like to head out on a tour or co-headline with?
I don’t know about a co-headline situation but we would love to start touring with some rock bands that we haven’t been out with before. Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, FFDP, etc… It would be cool to play for their fans that have never heard of us before.

How would you describe Slam Dunk in relation to other shows and festivals?
Slam Dunk always has a great variety of different bands that make the festival feel very eclectic & refreshing. It’s awesome to walk around the festival grounds & hear different styles of music.

Finally, what can punters expect from your Slam Dunk set?
We’re gonna mix it up for sure! Since we’re headlining we have a good bit of time on stage, so people can expect to hear a bunch of songs from the last 6 years.
