Royal Blood share video for ‘Hold On’

After returning to live shows this summer with headline sets at the Tramlines and Victorious Festivals, Royal Blood put a renewed focus on their #1 album ‘Typhoons’ by sharing a new video for its new single and penultimate track ‘Hold On’.
The ‘Hold On’ video was directed by Colin Hanks, the son of Tom and best known for his roles in ‘Dexter’ and ‘Fargo’. The video is his latest foray into music, having previously directed the documentaries ‘Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends)’ and ‘All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records’.
Hanks stars as Roy Boulders, a motivational speaker who uses the song’s uplifting lyrics as the words for his latest sermon. While the majority of the small audience is captivated, two doubters stand unimpressed at the back of the room: Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders. It’s a visual which offers a clever but subtle subversion on the song’s original meaning.

Royal Blood frontman Mike Kerr reflected on the song in a track-by-track with NME: “I think it was the first time I had written a song for someone else, who was going through a really difficult time. Like most of our songs, it started with the main riff, and I think it was the first time I’ve stumbled across a riff that felt really positive and really euphoric. I don’t think we have anything else like that. The message is about being there for someone and letting them know that they’re not alone.”
Royal Blood’s return to touring continues this month with an intimate show in Lincoln ahead of the following night’s set at the Eden Project and then a homecoming show at the Brighton Centre – the duo’s first in the town since 2017. They will then embark upon their biggest European tour to date in March 2022 before they return home to the UK for a run of huge arena dates, including the largest show of their career at The O2 in London.

The Amazons will support at all UK arena shows; Brighton’s Tigercub will open at Lincoln; and alt-rock quartet The Mysterines are special guests at the Eden Project and at  Brighton.
