With Reading and Leeds Festival just around the corner, we decided to catch up with one of the hottest new bands on the block, The Hunna, who have rocketed their way onto this years Festival Republic stage! We spoke to drummer Jack Metcalfe about their new album, tour, and all things Reading & Leeds!

Hi Jack! How has 2016 been so far for you?

This year has been gnarly thanks! We’ve been gigging lots, debut album recorded, first festival season and lots more.

Since bursting onto the scene last year you guys have been turning a lot of heads, has it been a little overwhelming for you guys having blown up so quickly with such fantastic support?

It’s been a whirlwind as so much has happened in a short space but we are stoked with it all as we worked really hard to get here and had faith in what we have been doing for years now and also have to praise our label High Time for the support & our amazing fans!

You’re just about to release your debut album ‘100’ on 26th August, are you excited to finally get the album out for everyone?

We can’t wait for everyone to hear the full album as it was a process we put our all into! It shows different sides to the band including some dope bonus tracks. We hope ya’ll dig it!

You have a pretty huge tour coming up in support of the new album too! Where are you most looking forward to playing?

Every Hunna show we turn up hard! A lot of shows can become favourites after we play them & we look back like damn Daniel that crowd was LIT! This tour has to be the Forum in Kentish Town as its our biggest show to date.

You guys recently released a brand new video for ‘Bonfire’ (directed by Haris Nukem), which looked like a lot of fun and really catches the energy of the song! What was your thoughts behind the video?

The bonfire shoot was a fun one and manlike Nukem had a vision of us just rocking out partying with friends on a roof top with a throwback vibe. We just wanted let loose, do our thing and let Haris work his magic like he always does.

Reading & Leeds festival is approaching rather quickly, what does it mean to you to be a part of such an iconic UK festival?

It means an awful lot to the squad as we have never played there before. We also know it’s one of the biggest UK festivals around with so many iconic and rad artists year in year out performing to bare people!

What can we expect from your set, any surprises?

A lot of shredding and a squad going ham to a hard bars set. Everything else will be revealed in the moment.

Who are you guys looking forward to catching over the R&L weekend?

A wide range of artists including Foals, Nothing But Thieves, Boy Better Know, Red Hot Chili’s, Biffy, ASAP, The 1975, Yung Lean & many more.

If you could pick three headliners for the ultimate Reading & Leeds Festival line up [excluding yourselves!] who would they be and why?

Bands like kings and foo’s get mad love from us but as they headline a lot already let’s go with Slipknot, Snoop Dogg & Skepta!

Finally, what are your plans for the end of 2016?

We are going to be going on a few more tours potentially in the US to promote & play the album.

Thanks to everyone for all the love so far xYou can catch The Hunna at this years Reading & Leeds Festival on the Festival Republic Stage over the August bank holiday weekend!
